John is a Non-Executive Director of Finance Yorkshire and heavily involved in setting up the new £60m+ gap fund for entrepreneurs in the Yorkshire Region. Previously on the Investment Advisory Panel at Finance Yorkshire and has been Chairman of South Yorkshire Investment Fund for more than 10 years.Currently a trustee of Sheffield City Trust and The Children’s Hospital Charity, and formerly a member of the Audit and Risk Committee at Sheffield Hallam University. John retired as Senior Partner at BHP LLP Chartered Accountants in January 2023, having been sole Managing Partner from 2011 to 2019 and Joint Managing Partner from 2009 to 2011.During this period BHP grew organically and by M&A to be one of the top 35 accountancy practices in the UK, growing from offices in Sheffield and Chesterfield to a truly regional firm with additional offices in Leeds, Cleckheaton and York, establishing it as the largest independent firm in Yorkshire.John continues to provide a range of services to locally owned SMEs, including; management and business strategy, planning and implementation, profit improvement, scale-up, succession and exit planning, along with advice on company shareholdings and structures. John is an avid fair-weather golfer.
