Over a career of more than 35 years, John has helped a diverse and broad group of charities create and strengthen fundraising programs. John is a member of the faculty of Columbia University’s Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management program. He has been awarded "Stellar Speaker" status by The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and has appeared nationally as a speaker for Candid. He has spoken at nonprofit conferences in the US and abroad and has provided internal training for a variety of nonprofits including The Ford Foundation and The Library of Congress. John is a contributing author to After the Grant (Candid, 2010) and to The Nonprofit Handbook: Fund Raising (Wiley, 2001). A Certified Fund Raising Executive, John has served as a member of the Board of Directors of AFP and is a past president of the AFP New York City Chapter. In 2003 and 2004, he served as Chair of Fund Raising Day in New York, the nation’s largest one-day conference on philanthropy. He is the 2021 recipient of AFP New York City’s Ralph E. Chamberlain Award recognizing lifetime service to the Chapter.John holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Hartford.
