About John G. Wingfield

In 2011, I retired from software project management as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer with 25 years of experience at developing websites, line-of-business applications, commercial software, and support infrastructure. As an information systems generalist, I successfully led on- and off-shore development teams delivering projects through the entire software development life cycle – from envisioning to delivery. From past projects, I have expertise in agile project development, including managing product backlogs, running scrums, optimizing user stories, and keeping the focus on delivering a quality product. I am a firm believer in 'learning the business' to deliver the best product. In 2015, I returned to full-time work with IBS, a leading maker of software for the golfing and private club industry. I'm proud to be a part of a spectacular growth through acquisition by EZLinks in 2016, and GolfNow in 2019, so I now work for the most respected name in software and business services for the global golfing industry.

Listed skills include Agile Methodologies, Sharepoint, Software Development, Management, and 44 others.

Program Manager Ii & Iii (Contractor)

Redmond, Washington, Us

In addition to working as a vendor contractor on Microsoft Bing! projects related to evaluating search engine results, I held Contract Associate (aka "a dash") roles with 3 different teams. 'A dash' roles are high-skilled, integrated team members who are limited to 1 year of work then subject to 100-day breaks due to company policy. Below are teams of which I was a member and some of the projects we worked on:* Branded Entertainment and Experience Team at MSN This team develops customized sections for companies who want to sponsor parts of the MSN web site, or create new, temporary sections to promote a product. Projects were developed to drive 2M - 5M+ unique site visits per month to other sections of MSN and partner websites. Not your everyday web work, these were some of the most creative people at MSN. I completed 3 projects and assisted with 3 others during my tenure. * Tools Team in Secure Engineering & Communications Here I worked on browser-based applications, reporting tools, and web services to manage the flow of information on software security and vulnerabilities to all software development teams at MS as well as building an automated system for releasing security alerts and bulletins to customers.* Visual Studio Express Product Team & MSDN Coding4Fun Using the Express editions of Visual Studio and the Coding4Fun website we provided support for a community of students, knowledge workers, and hobbyist developers who wanted to learn how to build .NET-based software to advance their education, improve their careers and just have some fun. I actually got paid to work with LEGO robots!SKILLS USED:* Agile Project Management * Scrum * Requirements Gathering * Requirements Analysis * C# * Microsoft SQL Server * ASP.NET * SDLC * SharePoint * Cross-functional Team Leadership * Web Development * Process Improvement * Training * Presentations * Vendor Management * Off-shore team management * Visio * Excel * Word * Editorial Management *

Program Manager (Contractor)

Seattle, Washington, Us

I was brought in for a 3 month assignment to evaluate what effort be required to modify a rights-managed film sales application gained from an acquisition to make it compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and then prepare a feature specification for the work. I was asked to stay an extra month to work on a quick, small database project for Getty's London office to track film advertising content for international distribution.SKILLS USED:* Requirements Gathering * Requirements Analysis * Agile Project Management * Presentations *

Apr 2005 - Aug 2005

Applications Development Manager

Us

Orrtax built tax preparation software and provided electronic filing and bank loan services to independent tax preparation services throughout the US. In moving to a new Windows version of their flagship product they miscalculated how quickly their customer base would be ready to transition from DOS. I was originally hired as a contractor to program updates to the DOS application late in the year. Due to the success of that effort I was asked to stay as an FTE leading a team I would hire to convert the DOS application to a Windows console application so the product end-of-life could be extended several more years if necessary. I additionally inherited responsibility for the several projects related to the company's data center and electronic filing services, as well as its web site. For the tax season I updated the DOS version, 94% of all Orrtax processed returns were prepared by that product. In subsequent years the full Windows version started to catch on but never reached the necessary appeal to sustain the company. Orrtax went out of business in 2008 with the Windows console application my team created still its primary revenue source.SKILLS USED:* Agile Project Management * Product Management * C * Windows API * Microsoft SQL Server * Remote Team Management * Requirements Gathering * Cross-functional Team Management * Risk Management * Scope Management * Vendor Management * Integration * Testing *

Oct 2002 - Jun 2004

Lead Technical Specialist/Director Of Tax & Electronic Filing

Jersey City, Nj, Us

I started as a staff programmer for 3 1/2 years working on updating and maintaining a DOS and UNIX-based C codebase that prepared tax returns, processed them for electronic filing, and secured bank loans for customers of Jackson Hewitt franchisees. Hewitt was still a very small operation but the potential for growth was incredible. I asked for and got permission to form an Intranet/Internet Working Group in early 1997 with three goals: 1) help the technical staff learn new technologies we could use to meet the challenges of growth, 2) educate operational and executive staff on the possibilities these technologies offered, and 3) create our first public web presence. The VP of Technology cited our efforts as one of the main factors in our very successful 1997 IPO. We were quickly snapped up by a Fortune 500 company that specialized in owning brands and franchise operations. I served for a time as the Director of Tax Software & Electronic filing before becoming the Lead Technical Specialist working with in-house teams and outside vendors to modernize our software systems to Windows, provide internet-based tools for franchisees to manage their businesses, and help train our staff and franchisees how to use these new systems.SKILLS USED:* Strategic Planning * Process Improvement * C/C++ * Visual Basic * Visual FoxPro * Windows API * Leadership * Requirements Gathering * Requirements Analysis * Vendor Management * Presentations * Training * Software Documentation * Microsoft SQL Server * Quality Management * Scope Management * SDLC * Testing * Research *
