John is a social impact leader with more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit, government and consulting organizations. As a C-level executive and governing board member, John has guided significant growth and mission impact for many respected agencies working to increase economic and social equity and opportunity. John has expertise in areas including strategy and planning; partnerships and mergers; fundraising and philanthropy; and marketing and communications.Previously, John served as First Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services; CEO of Inspiration Corporation; COO of Chicago Cares; Director of Individual Philanthropy at Feeding America; and Senior Consultant with KPMG LLP. John holds a BA in Economics from Northwestern University and an MPA from Columbia University. He also completed the Executive Program in Social Entrepreneurship at Stanford University. He was named a Public Affairs Fellow by Columbia University in 1996, a Chicago Community Trust Fellow in 2010 and a Notable LGBTQ Executive by Crain’s Chicago Business in 2019.John serves as a member of awards and review committees at the Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management, All Chicago, and the George M. Pullman Educational Foundation. Previously, he served on the boards of the Back Office Cooperative, the Center for Housing and Health, the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, the Chicago Low Income Housing Trust Fund, and Reeling, the Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival. He is a member of AFP, having earned the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential in 1994.
