Oxford Digital LImited span out of Sony in June 2006. This was led by myself and Peter Eastty (CTO) who are joint owners of the company. Oxford Digital specialises in business-to-business services including contract research and development and technology licensing (including audio DSP Cores and the Graphical Development Environment for semiconductor and.
Starting as an R&D cost centre carrying out research and development for a single internal customer in Sony, the group of around 25 staff was developed to become an entrepreneurial profit centre offering not only core R&D and technology within Sony, but also retail sales of software and services to 3rd parties including consultancy and technology licensing.
Headed up the professional video R&D team and represented Sony on HDTV issues in European Standardisation forums.

This was a very exciting time for me in engineering. I had transferred into the emerging technology of digital video signal processing and there were LOTS of technical challenges. This resulted in it being a very creative phase at the "cutting edge" in which I filed lots of patents in addition to leading the teams and sections.
I led several key projects including the EMI Digital Mixing Console and Digital Disc Defect Detection of vinyl record pressings. A huge amount of good technology and successful prototypes, but sadly little chance of commercial exploitation. I decided to join a different company with more opportunities for successful product development.
