Performance EngineerAmazon.Com Jun 2004 - Feb 2007Seattle, Wa, Us* Worked with fellow engineers to design and implement a fully distributed metric collection and aggregation infrastructure that computes counts, averages, and percentiles on counters and timers across Amazon's infrastructure at 1, 5, and 60 minute granularities. This infrastructure is a key component of Amazon's highly data driven environment. * Researched, designed, and implemented three fully automated metric forecasting algorithms. A general case time series predictor, an adapting order rate predictor (patented under "Robust forecasting techniques with reduced sensitivity to anomalous data"), and a time since last order prediction for handling lower volume sites. * Designed Amazon's next generation metric storage system: processing, storing and retrieving millions of metrics at per-minute granularity, gaining expertise in efficiently visualizing vast sums of data to drive time-critical decisions. * Led Amazon's cross-team Recovery Oriented Computing efforts delivering automated fault handling for large portions of Amazon's compute resources, resulting in the elimination of thousands of hours in operations every year and an increase in site availability.
