About Joie Ning

I am an undergraduate student at the Macaulay Honors College at John Jay College pursuing a CUNY BA in Inter-Asian Political Studies. My areas of academic focus revolve around refugees and immigrants in and from Asian nations, the impacts of historical imperialism on modern East Asia, and East-West relations; my major focuses on these topics through the lenses and disciplines of sociology, legal studies, history, criminology, and political science. I have a deep passion for social justice for the following issue areas: racial justice, gender and sexuality justice, and migrant rights, and I particularly enjoy front-facing and client-facing work, although I am also skilled in advocacy, research, and public policy development.I am experienced in the field of research, having conducted individually a two-year research project on the effect of transitional homeless shelters on misdemeanor crime rates under the AP Research program. I have continued my research endeavors in college and am currently working on a two-year research project on the impact of COVID-19 media coverage on Hispanic-Asian community relations.I am interested in connections or positions at organizations and firms working with or involving underprivileged and underrepresented populations. I also have a vested interest in entering the fields of entrepreneurship, startup development, and film/media industries. Spring 2024 positions are preferred! You can reach out to me at joie.ning@macaulay.cuny.edu.
