Dancing Classrooms is a 10 week – 20 session social development program for 5th grade children that utilizes ballroom dancing as a vehicle to change the lives of not only the children who participate in the program, but also the lives of the teachers and parents who support these children.At the very core of the Dancing Classroom’s philosophy (the Dulaine Method) is the essential respect that goes into being a Lady and being a Gentleman. In a time when we bemoan the loss of civil discourses and our society seems to become coarser by the day, Dancing Classrooms is a program that demands the children not only treat others with respect, but also encourages the children to respect themselves.Dancing Classrooms was developed in 1994 and brought to Northeast Ohio by myself. As a Teaching Artist protégé of Pierre Dulaine’s in New York City (and a Northeast Ohio native), I am spearheading the development of the program in this area by serving as the Executive Director of Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio.

Director - Weekend Scholarship ProgramDancing Classrooms New York City Jan 2009 - Aug 2009All students who have completed Dancing Classrooms are invited to participate in our Weekend Scholarship Program, in which students can continue their ballroom education for one year free of charge. Classes take place at our home studio each Saturday & Sunday.These classes provide an opportunity to meet children from other public schools, to develop friendships, to work with many partners, and to understand the civility, social manners, and dress codes expected in adult life.

Educational Liaison & Teaching ArtistDancing Classrooms New York City Oct 2006 - Aug 2009Our mission is to build social awareness, confidence and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance.Through standards-based, in-school residencies, we use the vocabulary of ballroom dance to cultivate the positive feelings that are inherent in every child. The maturity necessary to dance together fosters respect, teamwork, confidence and a sense of joy and accomplishment, which we hope to bring to every child. Ballroom dance is the medium we use to nurture these qualities.
