About Joanna Johnson
With 20+ years experience in digital marketing, content creation and communication, I've strategised, planned, written and executed more marketing campaigns and content pieces than I can count! I've penned everything from CEO speeches to social media posts, blogs to brochures, emails to packaging, and banners to books. My passion is great communication: words and design that resonate and illuminate...language that connects, builds a tribe, and inspires a movement ... content that is congruent and authentic and ultimately generates the desired results of the business owner. I've led teams of designers, technicians, writers and sales people and enjoy the thrill of building an empowering and positive culture to achieve goals together. However I'm equally at home flying solo if required.I've conceptualised and created large-scale conferences, intimate retreats, online and offline training programs and workshops in the digital marketing and content creation space and love the buzz of group work.I've authored two books: 'Stories Sell - How to use yours to explode your business', and 'Content Prompts for Business Owners', and have coached more than 20 individuals write and publish their own books. I have been operating my own business for 13 years and do ALL THE THINGS it takes to make a business succeed. I live my mantra "work from anywhere" daily, offering flexibility to my clients, peers and partners and adding interest to my life! I'm curious about the world and recently returned from three years living in Manila where I worked a little, lunched a lot (!), travelled, volunteered with multiple children's charities, was a member of the Executive Committee at the International School Manila, and immersed myself in the curious folds of Filipino culture.

Marketing, Culture And Communications Manager
Leading the marketing and communications effort across the entire ASVW Group, I'm responsible for establishing a clear voice for the group that resonates both externally to attract new partners and clients as well as internally to create cohesion and cross selling opportunities across the group's multiple brands (Taxstore, ASVFinancial Services, NBIA, CFO On-Call, ASVWadeson and others.). First up I'm creating content marketing and communications strategies in line with 2025 projections and a review of all current collateral and marketing assets for consistency and efficacy; then the wheels can be set in motion to roll out strategic and scalable online marketing campaigns. In the meantime I'll also manage third party agency relationships, train our partners in online promotion, and create an internal comms strategy.
Chief Content Coach
I'm a strategic marketing & communications specialist whose passion is to help businesses become better brand storytellers to drive business outcomes whilst adding value to the planet. I provide the following services: 1. Communications & marketing strategy: I create comprehensive plans to better disseminate messaging and improve conversion.2. Content creation: I get down and dirty with words and images to refute, revise and refine a business' ideas, creating online and offline collateral that is consistent in voice and brand and delivers to the business' objectives. 3. Content marketing coaching: I help business owners uncover their brand voice and learn the art of storytelling so they can create content that educates, entertains and triggers action.4. Event management: I'm an experienced group facilitator and retreat leader who enjoys holding space for ideas to generate, and for people to connect. 5. Presenting: I love the stage and am always excited to share, inspire and add value to an event. 6. Book Coaching: I turn experts into thought leaders by helping them write and publish their first book. Importantly I also teach them how to market and leverage the book to grow their business. My client base is varied, from solopreneur coaches to mid-sized financial services organisations. I most enjoy working with those who are motivated to elevate their reputation and who are open to change. I believe content should create an 'experience' with a brand and always deliver value in some way; ultimately, content should contribute to building a leadership platform thereby driving recognition and revenue.
Content Leader - Consumer Marketing
I wrote and sourced content for Australian REA Group sites: realestate.com.au, realcommercial.com.au and realholidays. The intent was to publish valuable consumer content to support both the listings and search process, as well as to address related consumer needs such as financing and interior design. I wrote blogs, ads and eDMS to drive traffic to the content and support our content partners. Achievements:- Initiated and created a robust process for REA to engage with third party content providers (contracts, style guides, deliverable expectations). - Management of third party content providers to successful provision of deliverables each quarter. - Designed new content-centric products for the sales teams to offer such as advertorials, sponsorships, that were in keeping with the overall communications plans. These were implemented and successfully sold at above expected levels in the first 12 months after creation.
Head Of Content
As the first person in a content-focused role at REA I was responsible for establishing the content/editorial practises from scratch across all brands and countries within the REA Group; I was both the strategic visionary and tactical implementor. Using traffic analytics and market research, I created a content plan for the business including a holistic style guide with country-specific nuances. I mapped out, researched and made a case for the implementation of a CMS, and developed processes for generating, sourcing and publishing consumer-based content on the REA Group websites. I also wrote blogs, marketing materials and whitepapers to support consumer-driven business outcomes. Achievements: - Conceived and delivered a huge Locality Guide video project: a national guide consisting of 100 x three-minute videos about the benefits of living and buying in key locations across Australia. The video content contained commentary by various REA staff, research stats and facts as well as vox pop from locals in each location. Transcripts were also included for SEO purposes. The Locality Guide video project received page views 205% in excess of target and was deemed 'successful' in so much as it delivered an increase in property searches to the ares included in the guide. - Completion of a comprehensive REA Content Style Guide with local market nuances.- Successfully negotiated contracts with 6 external content providers- Instrumental in specifying, implementing and testing a bespoke CMS - the first for the business.
Knowledge Network Manager
I created a comprehensive online marketing training program for client subscribers (real estate agents and property developers) to the realestate.com.au site. The program consisted of 4 modules which taught the basics of online marketing within a real estate context, global trends in online advertising, the specifics of advertising on a classifieds site, and copywriting and photography for the internet. I was also responsible for the marketing and delivery of the training program. In addition, I created a 3 day conference for our clients with keynote speakers, workshops and trade show. It was an enormous undertaking with more than 1000 attendees each year.Achievements:- Successfully delivered 28 training session in an 8 month period with excellent attendance levels and 95% satisfaction rating from attendees.- Delivered on my promise to find a direct correlation between education and activity: there was a 125% increase in uptake of additional advertising products on the REA platform by attendees of the training program.- Successfully ran a large-scale industry conference event two years in succession, with 30% increase in attendees the second year due to positive feedback.
State Sales Manager
I led a team of account managers and business development managers across Vic, Tas, SA and NT. We were responsible for selling subscription services, display advertising, listing tools and advertorials to real estate agents, for placement on the realestate.com.au website.Achievements:- My team hit quarterly targets 100% of the time during my management- I was awarded 'Employee of the Quarter" for my leadership skills- I secured a multi-office boutique agency in Sydney who had been resisting signing up to REA for 4 years. - Invited to the High Achiever's Club reward trip each year in this role.
Business Manager - Web Services
I managed a team of sales people and web designers who were responsible for selling, creating and delivering custom built websites for real estate agents. Achievements:- My team consistently hit quarterly sales targets with our biggest result being 175% of target.- I secured funding for my team to complete design courses as part of their professional development.
Account Manager
Primarily engaged in business development for this boutique advertising agency, but also heavily involved in the delivery aspect of most projects given the small size of the team. They were a traditional ad agency who began dabbling in digital media so I provided knowledge around mixed media advertising packages for our clients.
Recruitment Consultant
I recruited IT technicians, sales and marketing people and senior executives for the software and online industries. Responsible for full end-to-end recruitment including writing ads, providing guidance on resume and application writing, interviewing, taking briefs from clients and negotiation of terms and fees.
