Jolan Schloss is an experienced structural engineer with over 6 years of combined technical and site experience. His technical experience has included the structural design and analysis of materials handling machines and fixed infrastructure to AS1170, AS4324.1 and relevant industry standards. He is experienced with the design and inspection of structural components for industrial and port infrastructure, and material handling machines, including foundations and piles, structural framing, connections, and access. Jolan has conducted structural integrity inspections and assessments at several mine and industrial sites in Australia including the development of risk assessments, repair and modification methodologies, and the preparation of scope of work documentation. Significant projects that Jolan has recently worked on include:• Secondment for Engineering Assistance at BMA’s Hay Point Coal Terminal (HPCT) in Mackay, Qld (2017-18). Structural assessment and design of modifications to SR0 at BMA’s HPCT for throughput increase (2017). Structural integrity assessment of stacker-reclaimer machines at BMA’s HPCT (2016), including the development of repair methodologies and scope of work documentation.• Baseline audit and structural inspection of stacker and reclaimer machines (2016 & 2017) and site structural integrity audit of mine infrastructure (2015 & 2017) at BMA’s Caval Ridge Mine.• Structural integrity repair investigation of infrastructure at Rio Tinto Alcan Gove (2017), including the development of repair methodologies and scope of work documentation. • Structural integrity inspections of site infrastructure including steelwork, concrete and access ways at Incitec Pivot Limited operation sites at Gibson Island and Pinkenba (Qld, 2016), Geelong and Portland (Vic, 2016-17) and Mt Isa (Qld, 2017)

Responsibilities & Experience:-Working closely with Project Managers to ensure assigned tasks are completed within budget and allocated time.-Design of structures in coastal environments including seawalls, groynes, wharves, dolphins and ferry terminals. Working closely with Senior Engineers.-Design experience with multiple materials including aluminium, steel, stainless steel, timber, reinforced & unreinforced concrete, and recycled plastics.-Analysis and design for mooring and berthing operations.-Analysis of coastal processes such as currents, wind waves, sea level rise and sediment transport. -Generation of computer models with guidance from senior engineer, and interpretation of model results.-Construction support including inspections of projects before, during and after construction.-Preparation of reports including design basis, specification, and design report. Discussion with suppliers regarding products and materials to improve design for client.-Preparation of risk register, bill of quantities and cost estimation.-Direct communication with clients, suppliers and construction contractors.Achievements:-Graduate program coordinator in 2013 (volunteer position) – responsible for organisation of training, mentoring and social events whilst managing people and budgets.-Secondment with Department of Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts (DSITIA) primarily managing works to the storm tide gauge network. Client pleased with work and extended contract.-Construction support for Margate Seawalls, including regular site visits and resolution of construction queries.
