My position at present - Director of Policy, www.policyscotland.org.uk allows organisations who don't have a policy person / department, to still have their voice heard across the sector. Where there's a consultation to respond to, but nobody with the skills (or time!) to provide a response, we help; pulling together solutions, statements and evidence to get the ideas and views of the organisation out. We also help in the development of strategies, facilitate sessions around good practice, and share knowledge and information with others across the social sector.Some tasks from my portfolio include: *researching and reporting on the financial costs of homelessness per presentation, *helping charities input to Scottish Government policy, *providing oral evidence on housing and homelessness related matters in parliament, *meeting with relevant Ministers and MSPs to discuss issues and solutions, *the planning and facilitation of good practice events for experts (charities & Government), *Director of Strategy with CATH - where I led the organisation for 2 years, whilst developing a new strategy, funding, and business plan, *heading up the policy work of SWA - specialising in women's homelessness, *delivering a number of training sessions and workshops across Scotland and further afield, * coordinating Safe Spaces (VAWG), and *working with charities to develop new strategies that encompass the skills and expertise of the organisation and the needs of their sector.Before current role: Head of Policy & Operations, Homeless Action Scotland. This role allowed me to both lead the policy work, as well as play an integral role in the organisation remaining a key part of changes, possibilities and good practice in homelessness in Scotland and further afield. The main purpose of the role was to provide an effective voice for the homelessness sector, inputting into upcoming changes both from Scottish Government as well as Westminster. I have also represented the UK on Feantsa (European Federation of National Organisations Working with the Homeless). This included making more effective use of existing policy instruments, defending the rights of people experiencing homeless (or at risk of being homeless) and working with other Member states to eradicate homelessness.
