I believe that when we examine the past, we enhance our future. I am a writer who explores this from two angles: fiction and nonfiction. In my historical novels my focus centers on American history from the last 100-150 years. The first book, The Nightbird’s Song, takes place in Bisbee, Arizona where miners from all walks of life fought to establish justice and equality in the southwest. Soon to be released, The Butterfly Bush, first in a series, is set in post WWII America, comparing city and farm life and the expansion of commercial farming. When does the good for the whole consume the rights of the individual? Is there any way to make both sides happy?For my nonfiction work, my passions focus on food gardening, food preservation, preventative health, and self-sufficiency. I have written two books on these topics, The Best Little Bread Book and The Best Little Herb Book. Both are designed to inspire beginners. Someday I hope to write a beginner's book on raising laying hens.Working as a registered dietitian and registered nurse has served to confirm my lifelong belief that fresh food is always our best medicine. As I cared for patients from the fields of maternal health and pediatrics to geriatrics and hospice, preventative healthcare proved repeatedly to be the path to a long, productive life.
