Jolene L. is a Senior Manager at Confidant. Colleagues describe her as " I am extremely honored to write this letter of support for an extraordinary person, Jolene Levesque, who graduated cum laude from American University May of 2020 with a B.A. in PR and Strategic Communication, and a B.S. in Business Administration. Without a doubt, Jolene is one of the most exceptional students I have taught and mentored in my seventeen years at American University. I have had the opportunity to see first-hand, Jolene's work in the classroom, but particularly outside of of her academics, and all the contributions she has made. First, Jolene has been a leader in AU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America for nearly three years. She first joined the organization as the Finance and Fundraising Director during her sophomore year. As the faculty advisor, I can attest to her exceptional leadership skills, passion, hard-work, professionalism, and care. Holding this position involves a great deal of responsibility. Jolene worked closely with the Student Activities office and made sure we followed protocol and rules. During her tenure, she helped the chapter reach nearly $l0,000 in funds that allowed us one year to send 14 students to the International PRSSA Conference. In addition, Jolene brought more awareness to the organization through tabling events, large-scale campus events, such as our “Mocktails” event, “Portraits of Success,” and our Icons of DC with leaders in the DC area as well as AU alums. As a senior, Jolene served as our President and took our chapter to a different level. Our membership still stands around 75 students and with her leadership, our chapter won several awards including the Star Chapter Award, the Ofield Dukes Award, and she herself nabbed an individual award: the John D. Graham Award—the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. Jolene was also an incredible mentor--guiding other members of the chapter with her great communication skills, professionalism, and care. Jolene also held two outstanding internships during her time at American. One was at DDA in the United Kingdom, where she studied the spring of her junior year. There she helped with media monitoring, creating media lists, as well as serving as a researcher for clients and events. Here in Washington, DC, she did an outstanding job working for Strauss Media Strategies. There she collaborated with various account executives helping clients as well as producing and editing these clients’ reports. In addition to this, Jolene served as a Resident’s Assistant and helped act as a resource for incoming RA’s for Fall 2018, 2019 and Spring 2020. She helped build a sense of community among residents and within the buildings she served. She also worked as a desk receptionist, helping to ensure safety within the residence halls by checking students’ IDs. She was an important resource for these students who may have questions and concerns. Without a doubt, Jolene is a superstar! In my class students regularly contributed perspectives from their internship, extracurricular and conference experiences. Jolene was a memorable and regular contributor to these conversations, often discussing her past networking experiences from PRSSA conferences. Jolene’s propensity for relationship building contributes to not only her professional insights, but also her knowledge of the public relations field.
