Virginia Mason Memorial employs roughly 2,800 people and consists of 24 clinics with a range of specializations. I served as an innovative, cross-functional leader and strategist, optimizing systems and processes to improve programs. I led a team of 5 direct reports and 325+ employees across 16+ internal departments including HR, Kaizen/lean, patient and team member experience, volunteer and student services, medical staff services, spiritual care, early learning centers, administrative assistant team, employee health and free employee clinic, clinical nutrition services, dietary, environmental services, engineering, facilities and construction, security, valet services, and emergency preparedness; as well as serving on the board governance, financial, retirement and quality oversight committees.

In this role I oversaw a team of 7 direct reports and 171 indirect reports across HR, Kaizen/lean promotion office, volunteer and student services, early learning centers, medical staff services and department operations, administrative assistant team, employee health and free employee clinic, and community partnerships and outreach, as well as leading the retirement committee and serving on the board governance, financial, and quality oversight committees with heavy involvement in planning and annual goal setting. In addition to contributing to strategic planning and defining the organization’s vision and goals, I also serve as a key executor of board-level initiatives, including the adoption of Kaizen/lean principles company-wide, a massive ongoing undertaking set to increase accountability, reduce waste, and improve the long-term quality of patient care. As the vast disparities in the delivery of healthcare across populations comes to light, I am proud to note the initiation of the first-ever strategic health equity plan and scorecard for the hospital, which was designed to accelerate and track our progress in providing equal, optimal care system-wide through improved workforce diversity, staff training, and bilingual services (among other initiatives).

In this role, I was a key player in M&A activities as the Yakima Valley Family of Services was formed across several organizations. I led the HR integration and directed a team of 14 with responsibilities spanning budget management, talent acquisition, talent management, total rewards, safety, employee health and wellness programs, employee relations, and an HRIS platform upgrade. In addition I also held the role of the Practice Administrator for Out Patient Psychiatry to include contract, and revenue cycle management Select Highlights- Fostered culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence- Redesigned $24M health plan, saving $900K and launching employer-sponsored on-site employee clinic- Saved $230K on life insurance while increasing participant benefits- Reduced turnover 7%- Built a business strategy for the on-site Early Learning Center and decreased the subsidy by 50% -Saved 900K on health plan by plan redesign.Prior Experience includes HR Specialist and Employee Relations Manager for Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic
