I currently volunteer at the New Victoria Hospital where it is my responsibility to improve the experience of patients at the hospital through friendly discussions and assistance at meal times. I regularly work with hospital staff and other volunteers to ensure patients needs come first. I am polite and show courtesy with the patients I work with ensuring I adhere to all the policies and guidelines.I was a spokesperson for young people during a presentation the NHSGGC volunteer management gave to the Princes Trust. This was to give young individuals insight on how to become a volunteer and what kind of duties the role includes.

I currently work with my father who is self-employed and has run his business successfully for the last 30 years. I work 2-3 times per week and I have been entrusted with creating and sending all the invoices for the company of my own accord. I also work regularly on clients’ sites, with regular early morning work and usually work 10 hour shifts. Whilst on site I would regularly risk assess our work and ensure we have on the appropriate PPE. This has given me a good foundation of health and safety in the workplace. I also carry out varied manual work including tasks such as minor demolition work, minor electrical work, using power tools, cutting wood to precise lengths and following advanced instructions precisely.

I secured myself a voluntary position with Costin Group and I helped during the school holidays. After only two weeks of starting in the summer of 2019, my manager promoted me to a paid position which I was extremely grateful for. My role involved me doing many administration tasks in the office such as replying to customer queries, answering the telephones, ensuring all the training and HR records were in order and assisting with the payroll. I was then asked if I would like to spend some time doing work with an electrician for the company to which I agreed. I would assist the electrician with fitting and wiring items such as gas interlock systems, single and three phase fan units, fan speed controllers and inverters. I learned a lot during my time on site such as permit to work systems, isolation procedures, wiring correctly from a technical diagram and how to compose myself professionally whilst with clients or their employees.
