Joliyah Daughtry, a multimedia journalist for KWCH, hails from the bustling city of Jackson, Mississippi. With a keen interest in storytelling and a passion for making a difference, Joliyah pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Media Studies from Jackson State University. Her academic journey culminated in December 2023, equipping her with the necessary skills and knowledge to embark on her career in multimedia journalism.Prior to graduation, Joliyah gained invaluable experience as an intern at WLBT, working in the Gray Media Training Center's inaugural class. Her impressive work ethic and dedication to her craft earned her a position as an associate producer at WLBT while still pursuing her degree. During her time at WLBT, Joliyah honed her skills in writing, producing, and boothing, developing a keen eye for detail and a natural flair for breaking news.Joliyah's portfolio boasts coverage of some of the most critical and high-pressure events in the region, including the deadly hotstage that claimed the life of a police officer, the ongoing Jackson water crisis, and the devastating Rolling Fork, Mississippi tornado. Her work has been recognized by the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters, earning numerous awards for excellence in collegiate television news, student reporting, and overall broadcasting.Outside of her professional life, Joliyah is an active member of several esteemed organizations, including the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), Kansas Association of Black Journalists, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (Wichita, KS chapter), The Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) and the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting. These affiliations reflect her commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and serving her community with passion and dedication.In her spare time, Joliyah enjoys staying connected to her roots by cheering on her beloved Jackson State Tigers, learning about different cultures, and expanding her knowledge through educational documentaries.
