Working on synthesising novel antimalarials as well as the biological evaluation of the compounds against Plasmodium falciparum.I'm passionate about the pharmaceutical research field; particularly on work with malaria and other neglected diseases that impact Africa heavily. The majority of my work is in an organic chemistry lab synthesising a multitude of compounds but I’ve also worked in a cell culture lab with Plasmodium falciparum and mammalian cell lines. As a result of my synthetic chemistry experience, I have experience with a variety of analytical tools including NMR, HPLC and LC-MS. I enjoy working in teams and an more than comfortable to lead when required with abundant experience in this area.

The major focus was the synthesis of compounds which required synthetic route optimisation and rational chemical design. All compounds were then assessed personally for antimalarial activity in P. falciparum. Finally a metabolic stability assay was adapted to assess compound propensity for glucuronidation in human liver microsomes. A number of compounds were found that were both more potent than the initial parent molecule while also having increased metabolic stability. Presented posters and talks at various conferences and symposiums throughout my candidature as well. -
