I developed competence in cross sectional imaging due to the frequent exposure I had to the wide range of pathologies that present to the trauma service, I also took an active role in the presentation of cases at the weekly trauma radiology meeting. On occasion I took on general surgical on call duties at CT level. This gave me wider exposure to the management of an acute surgical take. I spent two weeks attached to the Cardiothoracic surgery department, during this period I was able to develop skills in median sternotomy and develop an appreciation of the management of penetrating chest injuries. I was recently fortunate to be able to attend the Cardiac Surgery ALS course which further developed my competences in this area.
