Jon Bonnar is Director in the East Asia Division of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He was the Counsellor (Political) at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi and previously Director of the India Implementation and Outreach Section in DFAT's India Branch. From 2019-2022, he was an Adviser in the International Division of the Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C).He earlier served as the Australian Deputy Consul-General, based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and prior to that as First Secretary at the Australian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. Before joining DFAT, Jon worked for the secretariats of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties and the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. Jon is a 2022 graduate of the Masters in Public Administration program at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. He graduated with an Honours Degree in Political Science from the Australian National University in Canberra in 2000.
