In 2011 I joined the University of Sheffield's Department of Civil and Structural Engineering on a part time basis (where I have been a visiting lecturer since 2007). I originally taught a module on 'Multi-Storey Building Design'​ (to Eurocodes), but in 2022 set up a (much needed) module on the 'Reuse of Existing Structures'. I am using my experience in both Industry and Academia to contribute to the invaluable work done by this committee, which includes helping to plan the annual academis conference being held at IStructE HQ in September 2015.

I joined Anthony Hunts in 1996 when the Sheffield office was just two strong, and helped build it up to 20 staff at its peak. I also acted as 'Relationship Client Manager' for Bond Bryan Architects, with whom we successfully worked on an extensive number of Further and Higher Education projects, with values up to £50M. I also lead the Structural and Civils team on the KC Stadium in Hull during this period.

I worked at HCD as a project engineer for just over two years, during which time I gained invaluable experience on projects such as Conceopt House in Sheffield (now the HMRC offices) and the University for Industry building next to it, Stocksbridge Medical centre, the Safeway supermarket at Meadowhead (now Morrisons), and an extension to Sainsburys at Pity Me (near Durham).

Somehow blagged a job working for Tony Hunt, who did a fantastic presentation on the work of his practice whilst I was an undergraduate student at The University of Leeds, and I have never looked back! Cut my teeth on projects at the Causeway (Staines), Cheltenham College, and RMC Headquarters (Thorpe Park, Surrey). That said, living in the Cotswolds was a bit quiet after 3 years in Leeds (despite some pretty good nights in Cheltenham), so I headed back up North the following year.
