As an eager Airman 1st Class fresh out of Tech School and FTD, I was tasked with taking care of the squadron’s F-15 C/D aircraft whenever the pilots weren't flying them. This meant performing launch and recovery, pre-flight, thru-flight, post-flight, and end-of-runway inspections, as well as servicing tires, fuel, oil, hydraulics, and liquid oxygen to make sure the Eagles were ready to fly and hunt on a moment’s notice.When the planes broke, I worked alone or as part of a team removing and installing aircraft components, conducting functional tests, and adjusting, aligning and rigging aircraft systems. Whatever it took to make the next sortie or beat the FMC rate.
