Beth Nelson & Associates is an agricultural consulting firm which manages the National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance, Midwest Forage Association, Midwest Poultry Consortium, Minnesota Canola Council, and the Minnesota Cultivated Wild Rice Council. Focus is on public policy and lobbying efforts. Member of the lobbying team responsible for creating the Midwest Poultry Research Program (one of only 11 new national projects funded in FY 2002). Research and identify trends in the area of agriculture. Other duties include writing press releases and newsletters, planning and coordinating annual conferences and trade missions, preparing annual reports, writing grants, and promoting commodities at national and international trade shows.

Responsible for the day to day management of a 325 member organization within the American Collectors Association whose members specialize in the collection of government receivables. Monitored government debt collection activity; prepared and managed a budget of more than $135,000; prepared annual, mid-year, and quarterly reports; wrote and edited Capitol Gains (the official newsletter of GSP); and coordinated and conducted regional and national seminars and conferences. Researched and identified trends in the area of government collections, wrote and distributed press releases, and served as organization’s spokesperson.

Served as U.S. Senator Kent Conrad's representative in North Dakota. Major responsibilities included communicating effectively with a broad audience including constituents, federal and state agency representatives, and congressional staff; mediating conflicts between constituents and agencies of state and federal government; and researching regulatory policies related to constituent complaints and questions. Hosted foreign dignitaries as well as fellow Senators and Representatives during visits to North Dakota, advised the Senator on broad range of issues, and helped formulate policy in specialty areas. Worked on wide range of issues, specializing in agriculture, i.e., natural resources, wildlife, public lands, conservation, and other farm programs.

Represented the Department of Labor during the legislative session; tracked legislation; and wrote and gave testimony before legislative committees on bills pertinent to the interests of the Department of Labor. I conducted labor law seminars and training sessions for the purpose of educating employers and employees of their rights and responsibilities under the law and managed administrative functions of the Department of Labor which included budgeting responsibilities, supervising staff, interviewing job applicants, evaluating employees, administering salary and benefits, licensing private employment agencies, and guiding the general direction of the office.
