I was responsible for overseeing the output of a team of Publishing Editors working on Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Nanoscale, Nanoscale Horizons and Nanoscale Advances, and ensuring that authors are receiving an excellent standard of customer service. I also oversaw the work of around 30 Associate Editors, working with my direct reports to ensure that their external contacts are working to the same expected standards. My role involved planning and day-to-day workflow management, as well as motivating my team to perform well and reach their full potential. I also managed the training and probation periods of new starters who report to me, and led the annual performance review process for my reports.I collate monthly statistics for my portfolio of journals, and prepare quarterly reports which are sent to these journals’ Editorial Boards. Alongside the Editorial Production Manager, I am responsible for devising, communicating and implementing new procedures on the team. I lead weekly workflow meetings to highlight priorities, and deputise for the Editorial Production Manager at departmental workflow meetings when required.

I handled the pre-selection and peer review process of manuscripts submitted to Green Chemistry and Energy & Environmental Science, leading to substantial 2016 impact factor rises from 25.427 to 29.518 and 8.50 to 9.125, respectively. In addition to my own output, I provided comprehensive support to external Associate Editors, including face-to face tutorials and teleconferences. I have also attended Editorial Board meetings as a minute taker.I trained a number of colleagues in peer review, and delivered a peer-run best practice workshop across the department. I sold cover artwork positions to authors of Sustainable Energy & Fuels, raising over £30,000 in cover revenue in 2017. I attended a Faraday Discussion and co-ordinated the associated editorial production tasks, which developed by project management skills.

I was responsible for contributing to the synthetic output of a multidisciplinary drug delivery team, who were focusing on delivering potential drugs for patients with respiratory diseases. My day-to-day tasks were primarily laboratory based, and I developed experience in a range of synthetic chemistry, analytical and purification techniques.
