About Jon Graves

As a Software Developer I get to do some really cool stuff. I have a passion for creating software, 3D Animation as well as tinkering with hardware. I love being able to come up with an answer to an engineering challenge. Some of the most fun I have on the job is creating something that has never been done or implementing an existing system in an interesting way. My background in animation provides better communication with Art Departments and get them exactly what they need.     As Lead Software Engineer for the Bohemian Rhapsody Experience, my role was to translate the director's vision into something that could be run on mobile devices. Most of my time was devoted to working with other engineers implementing new systems to handle User interaction and timing events to fire off perfectly with music to create a cohesive experience. These system only had to be implemented in the most efficient way and but rapidly deploy these changes onto devices that the director and producers could watch and give notes on what they felt would best serve the entire experience. The main challenge with mobile development, especially in the VR space, was optimization. After every leap in visual fidelity was always met with a round of system optimizations. From combining multiple textures into single texture atlases to batching objects to render together to reduce draw calls.

    Our main objective at BrainRush was to create games that were also educational. Our application for the American Sailing Association had the challenge of also appealing to sailing enthusiasts. This meant that the physics of the game and the way it interacts with the in-game boat needed to be perfect. I took it upon myself to create a physics based buoyancy system over a weekend to give the client exactly what they wanted. Along with full boat buoyancy based on real world the application also has realistic sail animations with real world point-of-sail look and feel.Responsible for Modeling, rigging and animating multiple hard surface and organic models and developing C# scripts in unity.

Virsix created location-based entertainment for Skyzone trampoline parks as well as arcade style fully immersive shooters. These games surrounded the user on three sides with projection screens and using computer vision techniques allowed multiple users to play together at the same time.
