The Cabinet Office sits at the centre of government supporting the Cabinet and Prime Minister.I joined initially on a short term contract to guide the central finance team through a critical period of change; I was then asked to lead a project to transform the financial management of the Civil Service Pension Scheme. In late 2018 I took a permanent role taking on additional responsibilities such as pensions comms and engagement and the financial leadership of the civil service's central HR function with a turnover of £180m.In these roles, I have often inherited struggling and demotivated teams with a poor reputation in the business. I have led and empowered them by setting demanding goals, putting my trust in them to deliver them whilst supporting them. The outcomes have been recognised across the business with the teams now seen as value adding.

Financial and management accounts, business reporting, long term planning, investment appraisal, budgets, forecasts, financial operations, treasury management, tax, procurement including research and innovation services, corporate governance and supporting the audit committee. Major achievements included transforming the finance and procurement teams into an effective and high performing function, managing the triennial valuation of the company pension, implementing pension reforms, re-engineering company insurance and health care, implementation of EU procurement and state aid regulations, integrating a major new business into the company, delivering better cash return and improving corporate governance by strengthening the work of the audit committee and re-casting the scheme of delegation.

Financial and management accounting, financial operations, tax, support of the audit committee, risk, internal audit and assurance, procurement policy, civil penalties. Major achievements included successful transition of accounts from UK GAAP to IFRS including accounting for complex PFI contracts, managing accounting impact of a merger, reforming the finance team and reducing headcount by 20%, establishment of a risk and assurance unit and a procurement function.
