I've been an environmental activist in different guises for all of my adult life. Fr the last 20 years the main focus of my work has been in renewable energy co-operatives. In 2003 I co-founded Goldenfuels - a worker co-op making biodiesel from recycled cooking oil in Oxford. After 3 years working for Energy4All, I co-founded Sharenergy Co-operative in 2011. Sharenergy works across the UK and across the renewable technologies to help communities to set up and run over 100 successful renewable energy co-ops. In 2023 I co-founded the Big Solar Co-op which develops and owns large solar arrays on businesses, community buildings and suitable land. I work with people to deliver practical renewable energy co-ops and to help them navigate the technical, regulatory, cultural and financial constraints with creative stubbornness and joy.

DirectorGoldenfuels 2003 - 2012Goldenfuels was a co-operative making biodiesel from waste cooking oil in the Oxford area. At our peak we employed 5 staff and made over 100,000 litres of biodiesel a year, collecting weekly from many outlets in Oxford and delivering fuel to private and business clients. We closed Goldenfuels when we realised that we could not make it sustainable financially in the long run - mainly because we could not get reliable access to waste oil streams. Very proud to say we paid off our debts first and didn't go bust!

CtoCitipages 2000 - 2002I worked for Citipages, an internet startup, during the internet boom around 2000. We had an ambitious plan to provide local portals across UK towns and cities. I ran a software team (local and outsourced) and wrote a lot of code, including writing a CMS completely from scratch in PHP. After 2 years I decided that I needed to focus on my core values and work exclusively on environmental projects.
