Jon joined Unilever’s Safety and Environmental Assurance Centre (SEAC) in 2004. Since that time I have undertaken diverse roles with respect to product consumer safety and safety during product manufacture. As Technology Risk & Vigilance Manager I am responsible for defining and implementing safety risk management strategy for personal and cosmetic product launches; whilst increasing operating margins. This includes process and occupational safety, and with responsibility for ensuring product safety and safety of factory workers during product manufacture. Tasks include:• Providing regular overviews of risk management plans across multiple safety domains - To ensure fit for purpose; regulatory compliant; and to legislative and corporate standards• Providing technical support, defining standards and providing guidance with respect to product safety (during manufacture & use), and including environmental sustainability - To ensure maintenance and protection of company image and brand• Delivering annual Safety Risk Management report to Chief Research & Development (R & D) Officer.During this time I developed and introduced leading edge risk management techniques, incorporating elements of strategies used in the medical devices and pharma industries.

I provide effective leadership across a diverse range of projects, leveraging expertise within multi-disciplinary teams throughout the life cycle of projects. Through effective communication and gaining team respect the following has been achieved:• Increased efficiency, through reducing complexity - Releasing resource to other projects/activities• Increased speed to market• Product launches on time and within budget• Significant cost savingsBy consistently applying knowledge gained from my wide ranging experience, I became a highly influential Project Leader, through:• Agile thinking • Providing novel and effective ways to overcome problems which may have impacted product launch - ensuring no additional launch costs

I was responsible for Oral Care, Beverages and Global Supply Chain Management accounts. As business partner for category R & D Vice-President, I assisted in defining the annual programme and agreeing priorities to maximise Incremental Turnover for innovation projects. I was selected to lead the highest profile projects within Unilever’s Personal Care category. It was essential to:• Provide clear communication of risks associated with product use, manufacture and environmental sustainability - Enabling stakeholders to make informed choices on risk• Liaise with technical staff and advise on the safety testing required - To ensure all risks addressed, with appropriate level of testing

I successfully established and validated in-vivo models of inflammation. Increasing the testing capacity in molecular and cell culture techniques and providing training to other members of the team on these methods. • I delivered a step change in testing capability - Enabling a significant increase in the range of materials that this small business could investigate - Accelerating their position towards commercialisation of the technology

I was responsible for undertaking in-vivo pharmacology studies, including processing and analysing biological samples. Though learning new techniques, and then applying them, I improved lab efficiency; and through the introduction new, alternative analytical techniques, I enabled the rapid profiling of new chemical entities which led to identifying multiple new lead candidate materials.
