Jon Dodd is an experienced weed scientist, botanist and vegetation ecologist with over 40 years’ experience in these fields, including 32 years as Senior Research Officer (Weed Scientist) at the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) in Perth. His long career with DAFWA centred on studies of declared plants (‘noxious weeds’) and their significance to agriculture in Western Australia (WA). He has a national profile on weeds through his involvement with several nationally-funded weed management programs, and has an extensive knowledge of Australian weeds, especially those in WA. His experience also includes undertaking vegetation surveys of Banksia woodlands around Perth and measuring their water use as part of his PhD from the University of Western Australia, where he taught a range of undergraduate botany and biology classes. Jon is highly skilled at identifying weeds and a wide range of WA native plants. He was co-author and technical editor of the book “Western Weeds – a guide to the weeds of Western Australia” (Hussey et al. 1997, 2007) which is the only comprehensive guide to the State’s weeds. He is a skilled technical writer and editor, and has published widely on weeds, including books and book chapters, conference papers and numerous reports and articles on weed-related matters.
