I joined the Marines right out of High School because I knew I wasn't ready for college - financially nor maturity-wise. When my recruiter handed me the long list of jobs, I saw one and asked... "Electronic Warfare... what's that, like... Lasers and stuff?!?" and naturally the recruiter responded "it sure is, son, sign here." After boot camp in San Diego, I went to Pensacola to learn how to conduct ELINT analysis using Oscilloscopes, GALEs, TRS, CTT and a handful of other systems, as well as learn the basics of UNIX systems administration, building and maintaining LANs, dealing with various cryptographic systems and all manner of Signals Intelligence gear and analysis. I got stationed in Hawaii at 1st Radio Battalion (now 3rd Radio) and was fortunate enough to be able to deploy in support of the initial invasions and liberations of both Afghanistan and Iraq- and am proud to have been able to do my job in the fight, despite those conflicts ultimately leading to no great improvement for the good people of Iraq and Afghanistan. When my 5 years was up, I started taking college courses, staying in Hawaii.
