Set up optical characterization lab for fiber alignment and micro optics characterization. Performed alignment of complex optical systems utilizing multi-axis motorized stages. Aligned single-mode fibers to free space optics requiring sub-micron precision. Tested fibers, isolators, tunable laser diodes, lenses and coupling efficiency. Performed optical characterization (coupling efficiency, placement sensitivity) of high-performance, miniaturized optics for fiber optic products. Reported data using Excel and Powerpoint.

Responsible for a wide variety of ISO-9001 certified thin-film vacuum deposition lab processes. Also responsible for ordering and maintaining precious metal inventory and flight-level material inventory. Purchased substrates, coating materials and lab supplies.

Halogen lamp and heatsink testing for satellite-based integrating sphere. Assisting engineers with optical alignments and radiometric testing. Characterization of bandpass filters using a spectrophotometer. Daily journal entries and memo writing to update the customer and our technical staff. Made drawings and directly interfaced with machine shop personnel for necessary components. Also was responsible for government tooling and equipment inventory as well as lab equipment calibration. Budget restraints routed me back to Thin Films Department after two years due to volume of work and successful history there.

Responsibility for operation of various thin-film deposition systems in both R&D and production mode. Earliest experience was with vacuum bake ovens, pneumatic pinch-off tools and process control. Occasional soldering. Performed the final assembly of cryogenic systems utilized in the M-1 tank and TOW missile programs.
