STEP has an annual budget of $5 million, 115 + employees, 24 programs serving more than 5,000 people. Services include Homeless Programs, Senior Meals and Transportation Services, Ex-offender services, Head Start/Early Head Start, Youth Development Programs, LIFES Academy, Housing & Weatherization, and more. Other responsibilities include; Effectively communicating, working with, and educating local, state and national political leaders and agencies to secure or maintain current funding and to improve service delivery. Conduct ongoing evaluation of programs to ensure all components are operating at maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Work with and assist the board of directors, to include developing and monitoring the agency’s strategic plan, recruitment of new members, ensuring tri-partite board composition, and providing annual training for all board members. Increased STEP’s visibility by developing significant marketing and branding opportunities to include brochures, newsletter, website, new logo on all materials and vehicles and annual report. Planned, developed and secured funding to build two new buildings, the first in STEP’s history; a 7,300 square foot, $1.3 million facility financed through USDA Rural Development and a 2,000 square foot early childhood education center for Patrick County. Developed best practices for the agency that include; annual program directors retreat, strategic plan development and execution, annual volunteer banquet, United Way campaign, staff development and STEP Leadership Program. Managed the single greatest period of growth in the history of STEP; since November 2004, STEP’s budget grew from $2 million annually to nearly $6 million; added more than 50 staff positions and 9 programs, increasing the number of people served by more than 500%.

For Males Only CoordinatorRoanoke City Health Department Jan 1995 - Jan 2001Directed the implementation and expansion of the For Males Only program by providing counseling, group education and role modeling to thousands of young men to aid in teen pregnancy prevention efforts in Roanoke City. Co-founded the Reaching Out to Adolescent Dads (ROAD) program, the first teen fatherhood program in Virginia. The ROAD program received special recognition by Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore in 2000.
