When I first started my career in web development I fell in love with ASP, and found love with ASP.NET. I found you could quickly get an application up and running really quickly. You didn't need to know too much CSS or backend to get something up and running just the basics. As I progressed in programming, I learned that I needed to know those things to be a better all around programmer. I continued to develop my skills on the frontend side of things by learning bootstrap. Then understanding Javascript more, and moved to learning Jquery. These pushed me want to learn the backend side of things, like how to better architect the database to help push the code to the front end, using ajax to help with that was a great learning experience.In today's world, to be an efficient developer you need to know the full stack. Only being strong in one area can have limitations. Knowing multiple languages is a huge benefit, as not all languages can do the same things. For the last 8 years I've been pushing myself into learning Ruby on Rails, where I found the same love I have for ASP and ASP.net. The approach of their take of MVC and connecting to the database, made me want to learn it more and more. It's also pushed me to learn more frontend development utilizing React. Learning React and Rails has helped me look at front end development a different way, also helping me to improve my middleware skills and made me look at the database architect in a different manner. I have a passion for learning and challenging myself to expand my knowledge in programming. I want to develop my programming skills in Rails and see what my next challenge may be.
