Retired form the Bowes Museum and full time employment but taking on small conservation commissions

I manage the conservation department and am responsible for the maintenance and conservation of the building. I also manage the Front of House team and project manage the capital building projects. When time allows I continue to conserve easel paintings and supervise interns.

While continuing to conserve easel paintings managed the conservation and collections management/documentation departments and was responsible for the conservation and documentation of all collections across the 12 sites. Continued to develop skills and knowledge in project management and worked on the conservation aspects in major developments at Discovery Museum, Segedunum Museum, The Laing Art Gallery and 2 large offsite stores at Beamish Museum.

Became responsible for the conservation of all collections from costume to railway engines across the 11 Museums in the 5 boroughs that made up Tyne and Wear - while still conserving paintings. Was also responsible for the conservation Managed a staff of 4 full time and several temporary staff. Set work schedules and delivered a yearly service level agreement to each borough. Developed Preventive conservation skills, went on a 2 week Getty residential course in London and was a founding member of the Care of Collections Forum. Set up the North East Conservators group. Developed Project Management skills and worked the refurbishment of Sunderland Museum, designing stores and fitting them out, setting environmental condition requirements for galleries and preventive conservation standards for galleries, including, cases, materials, access, managing and conserving items and setting up cases and mounts. Delivered the conservation to time and budget.

Was responsible for the conservation of all the fine art collections across the 11 Museums in the 5 boroughs that made up Tyne and Wear. Managed the frame conservator and assisted on some frame conservation., Set work schedules and delivered an agreed output for galleries and exhibitions. Worked to deadlines, carried out all structural work, cleaning and retouching. Monitored galleries, set up environmental control equipment,conducted condition surveys, condition checked loans, packed and transported paintings, carried out courier duties, supervised volunteers, contract staff and other museum staff. Set up environmental control and monitoring for paintings where required.

Worked as a private conservator for museums, churches and private individuals, often working on site and on poly chrome sculpture and marble monuments.

Worked on a variety of items, especially anything painted, marble sculpture, social history items, mounting and archiving photographs and furniture.
