Ceo & Founder
I was the founder of this prime contractor to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the largest accounting organization in the world. I was also the chief executive and chief analyst leading a group of over 40 senior software developers through several major systems development and maintenance projects. Maverick's most notable achievement is a highly complex, very large-scale data warehouse integrated with a custom OLTP departmental accounting system knows as General Accounting and Finance - Rehosted (GAFS-R). GAFS-R integrates data from over 35 legacy accounting and finance systems (all of which employed outdated and unsound accounting practices) that it transforms into modern double-entry accounting entries. It was completed on-time and on-budget under extraordinarily demanding conditions, and it is still in daily use in over 400 locations around the world, processing hundreds of millions of transactions annually with 24x7 uptime. It is the predecessor of the DEAMS system, in whose development we also participated.
Technical Lead
With no prior experience in “big systems” analysis work, I joined this unit of Northrup Grumman at a time when the internet was in its infancy and was assigned to research the application of modern systems implementation techniques to the transformation of multiple legacy accounting and finance systems for the United States Air Force. I quickly rose from a team member to a team leader, and eventually was tasked with creating a predecessor system to the data warehouse described above.
Product Manager
After the very successful design and development of an embedded custom firmware system for this provider of equipment to the telecom industry as an independent consultant, I was hired before graduating from college for the dual-hatted role of product manager, in which I oversaw both engineering and marketing for the product. I received several raises and promotions as the product greatly exceeded Joslyn’s expectations and the system remains in use today. My primary accomplishment here was the ADAM-720, the primary telephone system switching equipment alarm monitoring and reporting system used by used by Verizon and other major telecom companies. This system is embedded within telephone company central offices to monitor primarily switching equipment, detecting troubles on these systems using a variety of methods, and reports those issues to trouble ticketing systems employing an AT&T proprietary protocol. I was originally hired to develop the laptop-based user interface used to configure it, but eventually assumed the role of lead programmer, lead engineer and eventually product marketing manager.
Database Programmer
At the age of 12, after teaching myself BASIC programming on one of the original Apple II computers in lieu of attending math classes, I taught myself database programming (using the dBase III language on a multi-user operating system) and was hired by a company for which my father worked to replace an adult consultant from Honeywell who was unable to timely deliver on a custom accounting system. I completely redesigned the system, completed it and managed it for several years throughout high school. During high school and college, I continued to work for a variety of both large and small clients doing primarily custom database development work. One of my major achievements during this time is the Quality Indicator System (QUILTS) used by all 50 State Health Departments to assess nursing home quality of care. I worked on this project for several years supporting the analysis efforts of a team of leading geriatrics researchers from the University of Colorado in a project to completely redesign the antiquated method by which state nurse inspectors monitor the quality of care in nursing homes and other skilled nursing facilities. My system, which went from pilot to incorporation into the system used by all 50 states, uses a technique to sample and analyze an initial subset of quality data collected both from legacy systems and field observation, then calculates a set of quality indicator metrics to both determine whether an in-depth facility investigation is warranted and if so guides the assessment of that facility.Another was StarTime, and employee time and attendance reporting system used in locations worldwide.Hired while still in high school to rewrite and redesign all of the technical marketing materials for this client, I went on to lead their software development efforts as well and my work product remains in use in many business throughout the United States and the world.
