Senior Engineer, Diaper Converting Machine Development

Cincinnati, Ohio, Us

• Performed Platform Management for electronics and software. Planned upgrades to electronics based on obsolescence in addition to project scope. Defined and communicated the ideal future state of the machine architecture, ensuring that scope across projects moved the converters towards the ideal state.• Partnered with Process scientists to enable small-scale testing and optimization of new technologies.• Collaborated with mechanical and Process leaders, and manufacturing plant leaders, to make smart tradeoffs between electrical, mechanical, and Process complexity and risk. Developed specifications for the optimized electrical and software scope.• Led team of internal and contractor resources through design of the new hardware and software.• Mitigated risk by defining, leading, and performing technical testing for high risk scope items• Led electrical team at the “Integration Line,” where all scope items are combined and tested together. Led completion of testing protocol. Completed issue resolution and generated final electronics and software design for rollout to all lines.• Led two initiatives to meet all of the cost, timing, and functionality success criteria. One was >$100million of capital spending and deployed advanced machine vision to the converters for quality assurance (QA).• Developed new work processes: one delivered a $5million capital savings, another delivers ~$1million savings on each initiative • Developed a new test stand converter for Process scientists. Used latest control system architecture to enable faster changeover between experiments (2x productivity vs. old test stands), and to prove that the architecture is mature enough to be used on diaper converters. Wrote and validated next-generation machine safety software for use on the test stand and other machines across P&G.

2012 - 2017 ~5 yrs

Senior Engineer, Consumer Product Development

Cincinnati, Ohio, Us

• Collaborated with cross-functional teams to understand the desired functionality, financial, and timing needs of device projects. Provided recommendations, and communicated the cost, timing, and risks, associated with developing and qualifying the electrical and mechanical aspects of the devices.• Performed lab testing for new sensors and transducers, and developed test methods to understand and optimize their efficacy. Designed circuity and software to interface with the new technologies.• Created prototypes for consumer testing. Incorporated consumer insight device technology as needed.• Created plans to mitigate risk by learning quickly and cheaply, though FMEA/FMECA and Design of Experiments (DOE / DOX), testing prototypes, partnering with external experts (consultants, professors), and leveraging the capabilities of suppliers and contract manufacturers (CMs).• Designed embedded electronics including printed circuit boards (PCBs) for manufacturing scale-up. Created safety and regulatory approvals strategy. Led design validation and qualification. Obtained approvals: UL, CE, FCC, 3rd party evaluation. Assisted manufacturing startup at CM in China.• Helped build the >$100million/year Febreze Plug business through: launch of the original design and line extensions, global expansion, and cost reduction initiatives. Granted patent US7740395.

2005 - 2012 ~7 yrs

Engineer, Epc/Rfid R&D Leader

Cincinnati, Ohio, Us

• Designed, built, and ran a performance testing lab for the new EPC radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags intended to track cases of product in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) supply chain.• Represented P&G externally at trade shows and conferences, and with equipment vendors and retailers. • Drew conclusions from the data, and shared with the cross-functional team, to enable decisions about how to best leverage the technology in the supply chain.

2002 - 2005 ~3 yrs

Engineer, Consumer Insight Device Development

Cincinnati, Ohio, Us

• Designed analog, digital, and battery power circuits, integrated sensors, designed printed circuit boards (PCBs), wrote firmware for microcontrollers, built prototypes, and scaled-up to produce 100s of devices for consumer testing. Developed Matlab software algorithms to process the raw data collected.• Insights into consumer dose size and usage frequency informed dispenser changes that led to increased sales and increased consumer satisfaction with various P&G products such as Tide and Cascade.
