Regional Business Development Manager

Wales, United Kingdom

Regional Manager for 20 stores throughout South Wales and border counties.

Store Manager

Wales, United Kingdom

In August 2016 I was headhunted by The Food Warehouse and was offered a Store Manager position with the company. After successfully opening and running 2 stores in Cardiff, I was asked to open a brand new concept store in Port Talbot. This was the flagship store for Wales which had an annual turnover in excess of £7 million. In November 2020, following the successful opening and running of the flagship store in Port Talbot, I was given the opportunity to set up and run the first “Store of excellence” in Cardiff. This role made me responsible for the training and development of all current and future store managers, deputy managers and team leaders within Wales. I am the lead Store Manager on the area and subsequently deputise for my Area Manager in his absence. I have met or exceeded all KPI’s set and continue to set myself stretched targets in the drive to exceed expectations for business success. In 2019 I was awarded “Manager of the year” for my success within my role and support I gave to the wider team and business and resulted in me being awarded a place on the companies Trainee Area Manager programme. In March 2022 I successfully completed the Trainee Area Manager programme and am now running 3 stores whilst awaiting an Area Manager position to become available

Aug 2016 - May 2024

Store Manager

Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom

I was appointed Store Manager for Aldi at their store in Cardiff. I managed a store with an annual turnover in excess of £15 million and a team of 50 employees, with the objective of achieving the highest sales possible, whilst ensuring an efficient and co-operative working environment that delivered excellent customer service and consistent store standards. I put a structure in place that optimised productivity and focused on minimising costs, whilst tightly controlling inventory and price change. I placed high emphasis on staff development and spent quality time coaching and developing my team into the leaders of the future. I delivered all targets and KPI's set. I spent 8 months as part of the UK wide refit team, supporting both new and existing stores with refits/openings.

May 2013 - Aug 2016

Deputy Store Manager

Wales, United Kingdom

In July 2011 I was promoted to the position of Deputy Store Manager at a brand new concept store for Asda, This high profile role held me accountable for the store as a whole, its team of 180 colleagues and an annual turnover in excess of £20 million. As a result I become very commercially aware and detail orientated allowing me to focus on driving store standards forward whilst at the same time keeping all costs within budget, thus maximising profits. In January 2013 we were awarded "Asda Store Standards of the year 2012". Since opening, I delivered all KRA's set and focussed on coaching the colleague base into an efficient, highly motivated and customer focusedTeam, allowing us to maintain the high standards set in the drive to exceed customer expectations. In May 2013, Asda underwent a management restructuring process resulting in half of all store management roles being made redundant. Unfortunately the role I was in was one of those roles to be made redundant

Jul 2011 - May 2013

Home Shopping Manager

Wales, United Kingdom

In November 2009 I gained a place on the companies Team Leader (Senior Manager) programme, and took the subsequent promotion to the position of Home Shopping Manager. I took over an underachieving department ranked 179 out of 180 stores, taking £30,000 per week from a fleet of 4 vans. I turned the department around by putting a clear structure in place and spent quality time coaching colleagues enabling me to get the best out of them for business success, turning them into a very driven and high performing team. This allowed me to more than double our sales to £70,000+ per week and grew the fleet from 4 to 8 vans. I went on to meet or exceed every target set for me, and moved the department up to number 1 in the company. In January 2011 I was awarded "Asda Manager Of The Year 2010" for my success within Home Shopping and my contribution to the Store/Cluster as a whole. Following on from this success, I spent 6 months as a Homeshopping Area Coach, a role that gave me the task of visiting failing homeshopping stores and turning them around

Nov 2009 - Jul 2011

Fresh Food Manager

Wales, United Kingdom

As Fresh Food Manager, I was directly responsible for a team of 110 colleagues and a department with an annual turnover in excess of £17 million. I was initially faced with a £80,000 year to date waste deficit and a potential shrink projection in the region of 1.5%. I put clear processes in place to address these issues and managed to bring all costs into line and achieve an inventory result of 0.5%, bringing in a £11,000 credit to the P+L. I achieved a 22% year on year sales comp growth resulting in me beating sales plan by 13%, and turned the waste deficit into a £23,000 credit.

Feb 2008 - Nov 2009

Warehouse Manager

Following my completion of the trainee management programme, I was promoted to the position of Warehouse Manager at Asda, Merthyr Tydfil. I set about creating a well structured, process driven warehouse, run with maximum efficiency to enable the flow of goods to the shop floor to be as efficient as possible. I placed high emphasise on stock control, security and colleague safety. I met all KPI's set and achieved an inventory credit of £30,000 to the P+L at the annual stock take.

Apr 2006 - Feb 2008

Grocery Supervisor

I began working on both the Beers, Wines and Spirits and Frozen Food departments before being offered a Key Colleague position on the Grocery department. This role gave me the responsibility of ensuring the department was run as smoothly and productively as possible, so that costs were kept to a minimum and sales were maximized. I was also responsible for motivating and training other staff, enabling me to get the best out of them for business success. I was awarded a place on the company's Stepping Stones programme, awaiting a Manager's position. I also received the "ASDA Star" for service excellence.
