Board MemberNottingham City Homes Aug 2010 - Oct 2013NottinghamNCH manages about 28,000 homes for Nottingham City Council as well as a 500 home development programme for market sale and rent. The period I was on the Board included the completion of the Government's decent homes programme and major changes due to austerity measures and welfare reform. NCH has a strong reputation for innovation. It undertook groundbreaking research into the hard and soft benefits of decent homes investment. It was the UK's first housing association to apply BIM to its capital projects (receiving the BIM Project of the Year Award at the East Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards). It was also a leading player behind the launch of Efficiency East Midlands, with over 20 members now purchasing over £40m of goods and services each year. -

After successfully getting the Partnership up and running and developing the Strategic Housing Market Needs Assessment I handed over the Chair to Henry Cleary OBE to steer the Partnership through the next important phase of land allocation and planning. It is still going strong, now focusing on delivery, chaired by local developer/builder and FMB board member Chris Carr

Coopted Board MemberCosmopolitan Housing Group Aug 2012 - Mar 2013LiverpoolWith the endorsement of the then regulator HCA and the then Housing Minister I was one of four people who joined the Board to help rescue 'Cosmo'. Severe governance failings and financial mismanagement left it at acute risk of insolvency. It's size and national profile meant lenders and credit agencies watched hawkishly to see whether the regulator had the necessary levers to pull it back from the brink. The sector risked losing its safe haven status with investors. A smooth & successful takeover was eventually achieved by Sanctuary. The 'near miss' and lessons learned from the Cosmo rescue were later described by HCA as having a 'defining impact' on its approach to regulation of the entire social housing sector. -
