Dr. Schoonover is an Executive Advisor at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Dr. Schoonover works with the Laboratory Deputy Director for Science, Technology, and Engineering in the Strategy and Integration Office. His current focus is strategic planning at the intersection of research science, innovation, and national security. Jon R. Schoonover received a BS in chemistry from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. After post doctoral research positions at Rice University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he joined Los Alamos National Laboratory as a technical staff member in 1993. He has experience at LANL as a technical staff member, researcher, project leader, line manager, program manager, program director, and deputy associate director. His research efforts have focused on the development and application of vibrational spectroscopy with the goal of understanding complex chemical problems including studies of biochemical, polymeric, and inorganic systems. This effort has included the development of approaches for time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy, vibrational microscopy and imaging, dynamic infrared linear dichroism, and multi-variate analysis techniques for spectroscopic data sets. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed full journal articles along with two dozen technical LANL reports.
