Football Planning Unit

I hold an exceptional depth of understanding in the intelligence gathering, planning and operational response in relation to football event management; having provided specialist policing to over 1,300 football matches. I hold a key role within policing responsibility for the safe and effective management of football activity within Nottingham Forest and Notts County Football Clubs. Particular achievements in this role include: • I am proactive in the planning of football events, I prepare and deliver briefings to senior command officers to guide the operational response. • I drive safety at football events, working in an operational role to build fan engagement, support security and gather intelligence. I disseminate information to key partners, identifying areas of concern and providing tactical expertise to Police Commanders.• As the force lead on football banning orders, I prepare detailed court applications, liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service and offer evidence at court hearings. • I lead on post match enquiries where there has been significant issues or disorder. • I hold safeguarding responsibility for younger football supporters; diverting them away from hooliganism and anti-social behaviour. • I ensure the provision of key pre-match information on policing styles and response to concerns about policing tactics and deployments. • I write and deliver regular training and briefing packages to build internal understanding of football policing.• I lead the administration and updating of information sharing agreements between police and football clubs; driving the overarching aim of delivering consistently safe events.• Within the National Football Policing Unit, I served as a football intelligence officer challenging football violence; planning the proactive policing of operations nationally and internationally. As a deputy coordinator, I worked in support of the teams from the local police coordinating centres including British Embassies.

Intelligence

During this time, I served in various roles: Football Policing - Beginning to specialise in football intelligence I built experience around the use of the most effective techniques of identification and management of football hooligans and health and safety requirements within large sporting events. Covert Intelligence - Working as part of a specialist team, I focused on the pursuit of intelligence to challenge both football violence and organised crime. This role required a diverse range of skills including, exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, flexibility and resourcefulness and an ability to think calmly and clearly in even the most demanding of circumstances. Firearms Officer - I was tasked with high visibility armed policing response to both planned and spontaneous events. Working within a dynamic team, I provided armed protection, ensuring full compliance with all legal requirements of this highly legislated and demanding service. This challenging role required the most observant and considered attention whilst providing a visible and effective deterrent and response as required. The need for consistent monitoring and understanding of evolving risk and vulnerability was paramount to ensure that appropriate security measures and protocols were in place.

Operational Policing

Like all police officers, I began my service as a constable, moving through a wide foundation of training and development. I worked in a wide range of roles including as part of a response team, tasked with the immediate management of critical incidents and a wide range of operational activities. This required a thoughtful and considered approach, often under pressure of time and tight budgetary constraints. I brought an assured leadership approach, demonstrating an ability to manage a diversity of issues, to influence widely and to process information quickly and accurately.
