-Fabricated and electrochemically cycled test coin cells with custom electrode materials, including sodium-ion and lithium-ion chemistries.-Assessed the performance of cathode powder coatings in improving air stability through XRD analysis.

-Doubled solid-state battery capacity utilization while dramatically improving retention through the optimization of cathode additive compositions. -Fabricated and electrochemically cycled molten solid state lithium-sulfur test cells. Designed an airtight SwageLok test cell for use outside of a glovebox environment. -Extended overall cell lifetime through the development of electrolyte pellet synthesis protocols, reducing electrolyte cracking and lithium migration.

-Quantified heat release associated with hard and soft dendritic short circuits in lithium batteries at unstable high voltage conditions. Research focused on both lithium ion and lithium metal cells with LCO and LFP cathodes.-Developed a procedure for the reliable production of test pouch cells, decreasing internal cell resistance by 90%. -Designed and fabricated a custom nail penetration device for the reliable reproduction of internal short circuits in lithium ion cells with three forms of in-situ internal short circuit resistance measurements. -Developed a model using COMSOL Multiphysics to predict thermal and electrochemical behavior of lithium ion battery cells under internal short circuit conditions.

-Determined detection limits of 24 elements and 54 measurement wavelengths for an iCAP ICP-OES.-Optimized number of standards and integration time needed to minimize detection limits.
