I worked on a feature development team that owned the full vertical stack up to DevOps' door. From ETL to CSS, I was on it. Such is small company enterprise software.• Agile development in Spring / Hibernate / MarionetteJS, with the attendant underlying technologies• Collection, analytics, and warehouse work with real time user live querying into the Big Data using Hadoop / Hive, Oozie, ReactiveX, Elasticsearch. These were not all equally loved.• Keeping things kosher with JUnit / Mockito, Jasmine / Karma, and Cucumber / Selenium• Tooling in Python, NodeJS, and sometimes even plain ol' bash.• Building and resource management with Maven, NPM, RequireJS, Gulp, SASS, Docker• Writing Icinga alerts.• Fixing bugs, migrating data, and cleaning up legacy code no one else wants to deal with.

Because our overhead was low and we had deep industry experience, we could deliver courses, customer support, and an online component that was and still is superior to anything else. State regulations changed, and other life commitments got in the way, so my partners and I decided to close it down.• Planning and executing the product line, website, marketing, growth trajectory, and hiring.• Top to bottom content creation (planning, design, audio, video, editing) and LMS integration for online learning. This was an immense amount of time and sweat: work for your own company is a labor of love.• Creation and supervision of digital advertising: ads, analytics, budget.• Reduced company's expenditures and recovered all startup costs within 4 months of launch.

Viggle's most innovative tech was confirming television engagement via audio-fingerprinting, but the app itself did some neat work with web views before Apple started really clamping down. This gave us a faster iteration and deploy cycle.• Development of interactive hybrid HTML5 mobile apps that looked "native enough" without killing battery life.• Browser plugin creation (back when you had to do it uniquely for each web engine).• Deployment and remote debugging tricks in an era where cross-platform mobile web views had all sorts of fun surprises• NodeJS work for developer tool chains. (Grunt was pretty cutting edge back then. We even had a couple of perl scripts in the repo.)• Wordpress plugin development and PHP for corporate site. Not thrilling, but full of security land-mines.

I started my tech career at a city agency that hadn't yet come into the mayor's radar for a technology overhaul. Even with the regulatory and security constraints, there was still a lot of freedom for green fields development that agency leadership appreciated even having a junior dev do. The most creative part was finding technical detours around the roadblocks of unwieldy security and aging stack of NYCDoITT central in order to get the functionality I needed without relying on the bureaucracy.• Creating custom web applications from scratch for specific needs of the agency in a pure front-end code.• Ensuring cross-browser stability and performance in ancient web browsers. (Think debugging for IE7 in 2012.)• Documentation of technical procedures for non-technical staff.• Because of my work, the agency could deliver registration and search for business courses and job listings with far greater efficiency (if you believe that's possible in government) and customization.

A closed social network for colleges. Imagine being able to see what was going on at a campus by overall popularity, your friends' habits, create groups, and broadcast events - all restricted to students and alumni. It sat at a feature nexus still not quite defined by any other social network, and put a digital layer over the preexisting college community.• Coding the front-end, and a cross-platform mobile app (Appcelerator Titanium) for the social media startup.• Worked on some interesting client-side JS performance bottlenecks enabling Google maps interactivity with large datasets and multiple filters.• Custom automated testing suites to reliably monitor feature up-time from the end user perspective. (Selenium wasn't quite "there" yet)• Brought voluntary adoption and regular use of the system to 25-33% of all users in pilot schools.
