Jon has worked as a freelance artist - director, playwright, designer, educator and facilitator - with such companies as Magic Theatre, San Francisco Playhouse, Aurora Theatre Company, Shotgun Players, Marin Theatre Company, Foothill Theatre Company, TheatreFIRST, and American Conservatory Theater. He is currently Adjunct Faculty at Chabot College and St. Mary's College. He is the recipient of awards from the Kennedy Center Meritorious Achievement Award, North Bay Artys, Marquee Journalists, Ellys, Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle, and Theatre Bay Area, and has also been honored with the Solano College Theatre Alumni Award. He is a grant recipient from Theatre Bay Area, Shotgun Players’ Bridging the Gap, SUI Generis, and the National Endowment for the Arts. He is the Artistic Facilitator for TheatreFirst, Co-Artistic Director of Groundswell: The International Theatre Intensive, Company Member of both Shotgun Players and PlayGround, as well as a proud member of SDC, the union for stage directors and choreographers. www.jontracyplays.com

Involved in all aspects of programing for international theatre intensives located in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Groundswell curates the space and time for artists to address and hone their current body of work - discarding old answers for new questions - so as to re-enter the art form with new, focused and more personal intentions.

Involved in all aspects of development and programing for TheatreFIRST, including its process-based development lab that includes over fifty commissioned playwrights under his tenure, mandates of at least two-thirds persons, half female identified and one-third LGBTQIA2+ in all aspects of their board, staff and contractors. The equity initiatives that make up TheatreFIRST’s ethos, have been featured in nationally in such media as American Theatre, New York Times, and beyond.

Responsible for recruiting and sustaining the company’s artistic talent, scheduling and reinforcing all production timelines. Co-founded The Sandbox, their second stage season for new works.

Responsible for all major aspects of theatre, film, and music production company, including budgetary planning and management; creative fundraising; staff and volunteer recruitment, training and recognition; donor development; special events and youth services.

Managed the largest national touring company for children. Scheduled ten tours in five-month intervals, twice a year. Managed the creation of scenic, light, and sound design. Built network of communication between national education system and the theatre company.
