Life has taught me that the greatest results come from hard work, dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence. My wife, Heather, and I are owners of NOVA Home Loans. I’m the Chairman of the Board and Heather is by my side on our Board. We met at Amphi High School in Tucson, AZ in 1986 and started dating in 1989 while I was playing Football at Stanford University and earning a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering. We were engaged after my record breaking “Rookie of the Year” season in the Canadian Football League (1991) with the BC Lions and then married right before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1994), my childhood dream. After a career ending injury, we came back to Tucson and both joined NOVA Home Loans in 1995, working together as a team. We spent the first year learning the mortgage business before developing a game plan with a 5-year goal to become America’s #1 Originating Team. We applied what I learned on and off the field at Stanford towards the mortgage industry which led to developing The Volpe Team and Our Playbook. With support from this amazing process and people at NOVA, the Volpe Team achieved national recognition as a Top 200 Loan Originator in the nation and became America’s #1 Origination Team from 2001 thru 2004, and later again in 2007, 2013, and 2016 by a variety of industry publications. I was promoted to CEO in 2003 and was asked to replicate Our Playbook and Team Concept across all of NOVA’s Offices. NOVA has grown from 1 Office and 12 people in 1995 to 21 Offices and nearly 1000 people in 2021. This all came with much hard work, dedication, and sacrifice as Heather became “Super Mom” raising our two wonderful children, Kaylie and Trevor. After working 24-7 for 27 years, I’ve stepped down from CEO to Chairman to spend more time with my family and friends. My new goal is to be the very best husband and father. Our Tucson community has always supported us and now we are “paying it forward” to give back to all of our communities we serve. I hope my story connected with you.
