Software Developer
Ottawa, Canada Area
• Lead technical development of graduate and honours students’ research experiments. Crafted experiments using technologies chosen in accordance with experiment needs and complexity from a breadth of gaming, simulation and proprietary sources• Made key recommendations for guiding exploratory VR/AR research. Maintained up-to-date knowledge of hardware devices, software tool kits, and human factors issues in order to provide informed recommendations on the applicability of VR to various psychology research and aviation simulation problems• Collaborated with a team of developers to evolve complex and computationally distributed aircraft simulators used for academic, government and industry experimentation. Responsible for tasks ranging from low-level architecture debugging to user-facing tool planning and development• Efficiently mentored students in understanding their experiment’s technical development. Carrying out this multi-stage process included recommending candidate technologies during concept refinement, clearly communicating implementation details including limitations and measurement precision issues, ensuring students were well informed of the state of software during rapid prototype iteration, and collaborating on output validation• Performed numerous IT administration and hardware procurement tasks within a small-team environment
