I'm a communications professional with two decades of experience in media and journalism, drawing on my experience to help clients tell their story and solve their message and strategy challenges. I’m also energized by helping organizational leaders build internal culture that inspires employees/members and gives them meaning and purpose, from the C-suite to the facilities staff. The last decade of journalism gave me a deep conviction about the importance of institutions to do two things:1. Help individuals belong, transform and achieve what they can't on their own. 2. Help society solve its challenges and seize its opportunities. I spent 23 years in journalism: I cut my teeth on the Washington Times city desk. I covered Bush and Obama in the White House and traveled around the world with the White House press corps for the Washington Times. I covered Congress during the Obamacare fight for The Daily Caller, as I helped Tucker Carlson launch that site as his lead political reporter. In 2011 I moved to the Huffington Post and traveled to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina repeatedly as their lead reporter on the Republican presidential primary, then went on to cover the 2012 general election. Right after the 2012 election, I began working on a book about one of the best presidential campaign stories nobody had told before: the 1980 showdown between Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy. That book, Camelot's End, came out in 2019. Publisher's Weekly called it "enthralling."In 2014 I moved to Yahoo News, as one of their lead political reporters. In 2021 I was promoted to chief national correspondent, in recognition of my relentlessness in the 2020 election cycle, which was one long crisis communications campaign. And in 2023, I published a religious history/spiritual memoir of evangelicalism, written through the eyes of a zealot turned journalist. Yuval Levin said that book, Testimony, was "honest, meditative, and beautifully written."I know how media works. I know Washington and the federal government, and I understand politics at the national level and in the states. I am deeply connected in the world of faith and politics. One of my projects is being turned into a major TV series by Don Cheadle and Adam Scott. I'm driven by curiosity. I love solving problems. There are plenty to go around these days, and I have a solutions-oriented mindset honed by years of probing analysis.
