The study is in the final phase of collecting Landslide data (Site Assessment including geotechnical data collection) in support of the Hazard Matrix prepared by the University of Akron Research Project. The inventory consists of visual reconnaissance of Federal and State Highways throughout Ohio by two-person teams with a special emphasis on the southern regions associated with glacial activity and the Ohio River Valley. The sites are classified into two tiers - non-rated and rated - according to the aforesaid matrix. A variety of data is collected: GPS and LASER rangefinder information; soil and groundwater assessment; prior geotechnical remediation efforts; possible future geotechnical remediation repairs; and photographic documentation accompanied by field mapping - plan views and cross-sections of rated sites. The collected data is then returned to the home office in Girard, Ohio to be prepared for upload into the GHMS database, cross referenced to ESRI ArcGIS software suite, and submitted to the Ohio DOT offices for future consideration of remediation efforts.
