About Jon Willems Jr.

Jon Willems obtained his Master (With Distinction) and Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (2017), before going on to work for the NASA Johnson Space Center as a Civil Servant. While at the Johnson Space Center he worked in the Applied Aerosciences and CFD branch where he conducted multi-species, re-entry, aerothermodynamic CFD for the commercial crew program on vehicles such as the Space-X Dragon Crew and the Boeing Starliner. Currently he is an Air Force Research Lab Scholar and a 4th year PhD student in Aerospace Engineering, researching computational aerothermoelasticity (FTSI) under Professor Jack McNamara in the Multi-Physics Interactions Research Group at The Ohio State University (2019 - present).

Multi-physics Interactions Research Group (MIRG)Advisor: Professor Jack J. McNamara, PhDCreated point-matched structured computational fluid and thermal models of a representative hypersonic vehicle using Pointwise meshing software. Developed and implemented a framework to localize simulations of control surfaces on hypersonic vehicles.Designed a framework to initialize high-fidelity local thermal solution from an AFRL trajectory scale design level tool. Obtained high-speed CFD solutions of a representative hypersonic vehicle using US3D. Constructed a partitioned loose coupling framework between the CFD code US3D and Abaqus using python.Generated time accurate loosely coupled fluid-thermal responses of my configuration: The control surface fin-body-gap region.
