All of the listed skills I have developed can be traced back to a single root: my journey to become an Eagle Scout within the organization known today as the Scouts BSA. As an Eagle Scout, I look back to my project as my greatest achievement thus far. I feel great gratitude to the community that made it possible for some small-town kid to renovate an entire cemetery that was struggling financially. The Eagle Project had a lot of small parts. I began managing my time with a mountain of paperwork detailing every draft for every plan for everything concerning logistics. Then, to acquire my materials, I visited businesses for paint, concrete, pipes, and stone. I borrowed a concrete mixer, shovels, paintbrushes, and shears. Brush was hauled, hardware was fastened together, and old paint was scraped. It took a few years to complete, but me and my team of scouts and parents put our all into renovating that cemetery.The beneficiary was glad to see our work develop: a cemented stone bench, two newly painted buildings, a shiny and bendable twenty-foot flagpole, huge bushes cut down, roots dug up, dirt patches covered in grass seed, crabapple trees planted to replace the bushes, and some more smaller things. Each mini project had its own time frame, and I estimated how long each would take in their own individual plans. I led all of this with most of it being done on time (painting two buildings took longer than expected), and I even managed to squeeze in an extra beneficiary-approved mini project because I valued working hard. I had the cemetery's front sign painted by a professional as a bonus, and the decision to do so was even decided near the end of the project. It all worked out.Often, I used the public speaking skills I gained from the public speaking class I took in high school. For my project, tasks were delegated to ensure efficiency based on each person's strengths. I scheduled water and food breaks to allow my volunteers to recuperate from the mini projects being worked on simultaneously. Additionally, I took the time to send dozens of thank you notes to all the individual volunteers and businesses from my community that came together for this Eagle Project.This project developed my skills immensely, and I want to continue to hone these skills in the future in my academic and professional endeavors.My next big goal is making a business - about dating (coming soon...)
