This job role involves supporting adults with learning disabilities within a supported housing environment to promote independence in skills such as budgeting, managing health needs, cooking and cleaning.

In this job role I supported elderly people with dementia and mental health conditions with daily tasks, nutrition, monitoring health needs and promoting person centred care. During each shift I was responsible for supporting a wing of up to seven people at any one time, and developed a greater understanding of how dementia can affect and individual as well as ways to overcome barriers to communication and care.

As a take away assistant I was responsible for taking orders and using the till. This further increased my communication skills with customers.

I carried out a multitude of tasks including baking cakes, interacting with customers, serving, making coffees, waiting on tables, using tills, and washing dishes. This helped me to develop my communication skills and confidence working with others as well as developing skills of coping under time constraints and pressure.
