Jonah Brown hails from the small town of Richmond, KY, and is a 2002 graduate of Madison Central High School. Jonah answered the call to lead at an early age, taking on numerous leadership roles in his high school, his church fellowship, and in his community. He attended college at the University of Kentucky where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Political Science with Minors in African-American Studies and Spanish. He is a proud member of the Epsilon Chi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and served one term as the Chapter’s vice president. He served in numerous leadership roles throughout college including Resident Student Association President, Student Government Senator, and a UK Ambassador before being elected University of Kentucky Student Body President. As President, he was responsible for managing a half-million dollar budget, dispersing funds for student organizations, and programming. In this role, he helped to create programs to improve campus diversity, women’s safety, disability resources and residence life, while also establishing and maintaining an active student lobby presence with the state legislature in Frankfort. He also served on the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees. As a board member, he provided financial, administrative and policy oversight to the operations of the university.Upon completing his undergraduate studies, he then attended the University of Kentucky College of Law as the inaugural recipient of the Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs Fellowship. He was licensed to practice law in Kentucky in 2010. He began his career as Staff Attorney to Fayette Circuit Court Judge James D. Ishmael. He then spent two years as Assistant Director of Admissions and Multicultural Recruitment Coordinator at Transylvania University. He transitioned back to private practice, working for two years as and worked as a civil litigation associate in Lexington. He is married to his lovely wife and college sweetheart, Chioma Brown.
